Employers are prohibited from creating or permitting a hostile work environment to exist based on age, race, sex/gender, sexual orientation, religion, handicap/disability, ancestry, and national origin. In order to establish a hostile work environment exists in your workplace, an employee must generally prove, among other things, the alleged conduct would not have occurred but for the employee’s membership in one or more of the aforementioned protected classes and that the conduct was severe and pervasive such that a reasonable person believed the conditions of his/her employment have been altered.
